Seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist for an opportunity in Webster City, IA. The MLT or Technologist will perform appropriate specimen collection, processing, and clinical tests according to procedure manuals. These jobs are performed during a given period of time, in emergency situations, and on patients of all ages.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with indirect supervision of the Lab Director or the Medical Technologist Supervisor
- Perform, analyze, and interpret clinical laboratory testing in the following laboratory scientific disciplines: Blood Transfusion Services, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, Serology, Virology, Coagulation, and Immunology
- Provide Laboratory phlebotomy duties
- Develop and update departmental policies and procedures
- Perform required quality control analyses according to the procedure manual and report any unresolved problems to the Lab Director before reporting outpatient results
- Properly log and report all results according to procedure manuals
- Maintain confidentiality of all hospital matters
- Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for adherence to organizational and department values and standards
- Adhere to Universal Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Chemical Hygiene Plan, Safety Policies, Infection Control, Infectious Waste, and General Hospital Policies
- Recognize and act on Critical Value results according to procedure manuals, and report them promptly
- Understand principles and maintain knowledge of instrumentation required to be used in all laboratory testing
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair of equipment as needed according to procedure manuals and manufacturer specifications
- Perform all required external proficiency testing
- Enhance personal professional growth and development through participation in continuing education, workshops, and in-service education programs
- Maintain department in a clean, neat, and orderly
- Participate in quality assurance programs
- Maintain current level of knowledge and skill related to education, tools, and equipment
- Work with indirect supervision of the Lab Director or the Medical Technologist Supervisor and report any unusual, unexpected questionable situations or results
Position Qualifications:
- Associate of Arts Degree
- Successful completion of a formal Medical Laboratory Technician Program
- ASCP or NCA accredited or the registration form for the ASCP boards preferred, not required.
- Maintenance of current basic life support
- Ability to use a keyboard
- Maintain Mandatory Reporting Certification
