Seeking to hire a Senior Process Engineer for a direct hire opportunity in Gurnee, IL. Will play a critical role in bringing world-changing technologies from the lab to commercialization as well as provide a central technical focus on process analytics and automation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use knowledge of routine laboratory safety procedures, SDS, and interpretations of hazards/toxicity data to perform all laboratory work in accordance with the written safety manual and site safety policies. Be a steward for safety and continually drive awareness to ensure a safe work environment for all employees
- Use knowledge of chemistry and chemical engineering principles to lead and provide direction or general support to the research and development team. Including product formulation and development, process development, competitive analyses, analytical method and analysis development, and field process support
- Understand formulation procedures and technologies, relevant literature, and IP information, and incorporate these into new materials (or processes) that add value to customer products and processes
- Experimental design, data evaluation, generation of scientific, and coordination studies with other technical groups internally and externally
- Write technical papers, and reports, and prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests. Reports should include recommendations for future research and development efforts
- Strong ability to quickly identify property/structure/function relationships leading to high-performing products
- Be the R&D point of contact for process automation and manufacturing excellence technical initiatives. Facilitate implementation of new technologies to improve efficiency
- Provide technical support to cross-functional collaborations with R&D, sales and marketing, product stewardship, health & safety, sustainability, regulatory, technical service, and QC

Position Qualifications:
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Ph.D. or M.S. preferred
- 5+ years of industrial experience required
- Professional experience with synthetic organic chemistry scale-up processing is essential
- Experience with process analytics, including in-line testing and data collection and analyses
- Experience with process automation and data analyses and management
- Detail oriented scientist with strong project management skills is required
- Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to design, build, and use pilot-size reactors
- Ability to work independently as well as manage project teams and scientists
Desirable Qualifications:
- Industrial experience in new product and process development and success in bringing new products to pilot or full-scale production would be advantageous
- Experiences with oleochemicals, alkoxylation, catalyst design, and surface sciences are a plus
- Experience with IP protection, including filing patent applications and regular review of relevant literature, is preferred
- Proven track record of effective communication across matrixed organizations, especially with operations and technical marketing functions
- Six Sigma, LEAN, and Agile qualifications with applied experience in a manufacturing environment are a plus
- Ability to interface with internal and external customers at all levels
- Proficient in commonly used business and scientific applications, including research databases, literature searches, and statistical design of experiments
